Ask Lena

Ask Lena

In honor of Lena Dunham's new book release (which received this glowing review from The New York Times), I've put together the 12 videos from her 'Ask Lena' series. My relationship with 'Girls' is a love-hate one, but my admiration of Dunham has never wavered. She is, to me, a wonderful embodiment of the modern young woman: smart, ambitious, self-aware, raw, and unapologetically herself. She can be poised and thoughtful, and she can be a hot mess. She doesn't try to place this shiny veneer on her person on her life but, instead, continues to move forward despite the seemingly-endless stream of criticism and unsolicited commentary on her body, her personality and her art. Her 'Ask Lena' series is a wonderful snapshot of her as a WIP, woman in progress - one who is well-positioned to dispense thoughtful, honest advice, precisely because she's fucked up in the same ways so many times.
